Social entrepreneurs who want to start a new venture quickly confront an important question: What type of legal structure should I create? Should I start a traditional nonprofit, a for-profit, or something in between? This is not a simple question to answer.
Join veteran social entrepreneur and Benetech leader of Jim Fruchterman for an in-depth webinar on legal structures. Fruchterman will cover and expand upon key points from his popular article, "For Love or Lucre," which appeared in SSIR 's Spring 2011 issue. He will guide you through four issues you need to consider even before choosing an attorney: the motivation for starting the venture, the market being targeted, how capital will be raised, and what type of control is wanted. He will then analyze five basic legal structures. Registrants will have the opportunity to ask Fruchterman questions during the last 20 minutes of the webinar, which will be moderated by Eric Nee, managing editor of Stanford Social Innovation Review.
