Open textbooks enable instructors to distribute their course materials online and at low cost but how can they be sure that textbooks are accessible to learners with disabilities.   College Open Textbooks and Virtual Ability, Inc recently evaluated 60 open textbooks for their appropriateness for students with disabilities.   Find out about the standards for creating an online accessible textbook and how universal design principles improve the user experience for everyone.  We’ll also explore the different formats for open textbooks and learn which ones are most appropriate for assistive technology, mobile devices, and other technology-enabled learning environments.

Alice Kruger, President of Virtual Ability, Inc.
