FIPSE Pilot Project - Associated Students Bookloan Program at Ocean Campus Student Union Bld. room 104B "Bookloan"

January 10, 2011 to January 28, 2011
A unique FIPSE Pilot Project (the A.S. Bookloan Program at City College of San Francisco) gives textbooks to thousands of financially disadvantaged, college students every semester and also promotes Open-Textbooks!  "Bookloan" is entirely run by students and they need help serving their mass of peers waiting to borrow books. Volunteers can expect to loan books to hundreds of students each day, work in a high energy student environment and see thousands of students' smiling faces after getting…See More

Academic/Professional Biography
I am a student at City College of San Francisco, I also direct the AS Textbook Lending Program that loans textbooks for free to struggling college students every semester. I want to promote the use of open resources because I see them as a very important part of changing the textbook market.
How have you used open textbooks?
I haven't used them yet. This semester I will be working with the Student PIRGs, and I will run the Make Textbooks Affordable Campaign on the CCSF campus. With a group of other volunteers, we will promote the adoption of open textbooks.

A lot has happened since I met you at the Trustees conference in San Francisco! I talked about your semester-long loan program at conferences in Detroit and Baltimore and in workshops in Florida and Texas. Thanks so much for supporting textbook affordability.
