FlatworldKnowledge at CUNY.

On March 17th, Eric Frank of FlatworldKnowledge came to Bronx Community College and gave a presentation to the English Dept. faculty. Although I have talked to individual colleagues and run a workshop, I have not been able to create enough momentum to move along the open textbooks agenda on campus. CUNY IT conference and Open Textbooks

 

At the City University of New York (CUNY) IT Conference on December 3rd, I presented on the topic of open textbooks to a standing room only crowd of about 30 CUNY people with an additional dozen or so who were forced to stand in the hallway trying to catch some of what I said. The attendees included faculty, librarians, and administrators.

Textbooks in the news



Here's an article from today's NY Times about how students cling to print textbooks. It might make a good addition to a presentation on open texts. Since print versions of open texts are so much less expensive than traditional texts, it would point to a solution to a problem the NY Times has identified.…
