College Open Textbooks Community

Driving Awareness, Adoptions, and Affordability

Is anyone participating in a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) or creating one?   I have been posting about them this year at http://www.serendipity35.net/index.php?/categories/43-MOOC and I am considering creating one this fall for next spring. These courses - often with many thousands of participants - seem to be the right place for open textbook use whether they are free or low cost. Check out my posts for more background. Any thoughts on open textbook connections to MOOCs?

Coursera is offering E-learning and Digital Cultures by The University of Edinburgh. It is scheduled to begin 1/28/2013. The course staff invited registered participants to begin sharing on Twitter hash tag #edcmooc. People, a significant number of them educators, have accepted this invitation, Great resources and conversations are tumbling out of this simple invitation. Even if you only intend to lurk, I highly recommend popping in to the course. There's fantastic energy and great ideas coming from brilliant folks from all over the world

Hi Ken,

The Open Courseware Consortium of which Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) is an affiliate is involved in the Mechanical MOOC which provides peer tutoring to support the "community-side" of learning that is often missing in mainstream MOOCs.
